Prop It Up

It's sometimes fun to put together a photography session that gets the wheels turning. This has been another long and chilly winter. With spring already here (and someone should tell spring that), and Easter right around the corner, I decided to offer a fun spring/Easter themed mini session. Even though I didn't have as many takers as I had hoped, I still really enjoyed the process and the sessions.

The first thing I did to prepare for this styled shoot was explore Pinterest. This site has become one of my favorite organizing and idea generating sites. After plugging in a few key words I set out to create a board of these ideas. This not only allows me to brainstorm but it also gives my clients the opportunity to see what I will be putting together for their session. From this I am able to see what I might need to pull the set together. Every themed session I do gives me the opportunity to collect props. Each prop I create or purchase will be something I can use in future shoots.

These are some of the props I created for this session:

I already had the bird feeder cage and the planting moss. I purchased a few extra flowers and the glitter Easter eggs.

The flower pot was a combination of left over glitter eggs from the birdfeeder and some discounted flowers. I even had the ribbon and the pot already.

The fence was garden stakes and 70% discounted warped wood which was perfect when cut into sections. This entire prop cost me $6. I had left over paint and the hardware.

By using assorted paper and fishing line I was able to create this simple spring time flag. I draped in on the wall during the shoot.

I also put together old plastic Easter eggs with the fishing line to create a string of plastic eggs. I hung this on the fence. Although this became a safety hazard for curious little one year olds, I really liked the look of it.

These are some of the photographs I took with these props. For the expense put in I think it was a fun investment and I hope everyone enjoyed the images I was able to create of their little ones.
